RDS: A List of the Absentees in Ireland

“A list of the absentees of Ireland and the yearly value of their estates and incomes spent abroad…” written by Thomas Prior in 1729, listed landowners who lived abroad on the income from their Irish estates and gave the sums of money that were removed from the country. Prior maintained that over £600,000, was lost in this way and called for a tax of a shilling in the pound to be placed upon this lost revenue.
