RDS: 'A Letter to the Dublin Society' (1739)

Madden first proposed his premium scheme in "A Letter to the Dublin Society" written in 1739. The letter outlines the practical application of the scheme and how to finance it. Madden also promised £130 of his money for the first two years of the scheme. The premium scheme was administered by the Dublin Society until the early 19th century, paying for developments in agriculture, art and manufacturing and for the planting of 55 million trees in Ireland.
